The Good Ship Dodo will function as an alternative art space for experimentation, performance, installation, and art production. This venue will provide a window display visible from the sidewalk, with occasional indoor happenings and exhibitions, making space for innovation and community.
Mother of Collaboration, the inaugural exhibition at The Good Ship Dodo, a new space run by artist Ilana Crispi, invites artist parents and their children to present work made collaboratively. This project will center the play and imperfection of balancing art and parenting, celebrate a new (and still developing) space, and allow us to come together in building community as artist parents with our kids, each other, and the neighborhood.
The exhibition will celebrate the innovations and discoveries possible within the field of art when artists can present their whole selves and include their families. Participating artists include: Cathy Lu, Chelsea América Torres, Chelsea Walker, Dana Hemenway, Erica Gangsei, Hannah Ireland, Ilana Crispi, Jessica Monette, Julia Goodman, Laurel Roth Hope, Liz Hickok, Liz Worthy, Rhiannon Evans Macfayden, Sara Mann, Tana Quincy Arcega, and their kids. A catalogue will be produced including documentation of works in progress, statements from kids and parents, and a guest essay written by local writer and curator Tanya Zimbardo.
Mother of Collaboration will be a celebration of the valuable work that happens when play and chaos and the real experience of being a practicing artist and parent are embraced.
